Just want to update everyone on the explosion at Otter Creek Brewing early last week. It appears a pressure release valve failed causing a fermentation tank to burst. The brewery shut down for a day and is back in production. Damage was minimal with only two tanks damaged. Based on reports it appears very small impact on brewing capacity, and repairs should be pretty easy.
Although there is no sign of negligence this underscores the importance of maintaining and inspecting safety equipment at breweries. Although it does not sound like a dangerous job remember brewing involves open flames, thousands of gallons of boiling liquid, confined spaces, contents under pressure and dangerous chemicals. They didn’t show that on Bewmaster’s did they?
