Frank Thomas ended his MLB career in 2008 after playing 18 years.  The former Chicago White Sox player and current Chicago suburb resident – also known as “The Big Hurt – is lending his nickname to a new brew.  The 7% ABV, 24-oz canned lager is contract brewed by Minhas Craft Brewery out of Monroe, Wisconsin.

Big Hurt Beer was released October 15, six weeks after the original release date.  Early reports indicated a release at the Sox’s stadium, U.S. Cellular Field but it obviously did not happen due to timing.  Currently it is being sold a Binny’s Beverage Depot and Chicago bars.

Celebrities entering the beer market has happened before, most notably Jimmy Buffett’s Land Shark Lager.  Buffet’s beer is from Margaritaville Brewing Company which is owned by Anheuser-Busch InBev.  Kid Rock developed Badass American Lager inspite of the large beer companies and non-American companies, in particular AB-InBev.  Badass is contract brewed by Michigan Brewing Co. in Webberville, Michigan and only available in the Wolverine state.
